The Ford Explorer, rust prominently creeping up from the under carriage, pulled off Highway 91 onto the shoulder.

Driver and passenger turned toward the sign, as prominent as the rust, which read 'White Sands National Park:  Beware of Ordnance". There was a pause of several seconds before man and woman opened the doors of the vehicle. The man stepped up. The woman remained half on the seat, half out of the car on the passenger side.
